Myotherapy
Myotherapy (muscle therapy) is the assessment and treatment of muscular injury, pain, and dysfunction.
Myotherapists treat conditions of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, also known as soft tissue. They have a broad range of skills from hands on massage, to corrective exercise, dry needling, cupping, trigger point release to stretches.

Myotherapists understand movement patterns and when one area of your body is compromised, it can affect other areas. They gather this information through observation and muscle testing to treat and balance the body.

What can Myotherapists treat?

It is appropriate to see a Myotherapist for musculoskeletal pain. Symptoms of muscle pain may include a feeling of ‘tightness’ or ‘knots’ within the muscles, a dull ache or sometimes a sharp pain in the muscle or joint. This “myofascial” pain may be the result of a number of factors including poor posture, overuse of muscles and stress.

Some of the conditions Myotherapists treat include:

Headaches, Back pain, Jaw pain, Tennis elbow, shoulder and hip pain, Knee pain, plantar fasciitis and Sports injuries, Lymphoedema, lipoedema and other Chronic conditions (click here for more details of common conditions)

What can I expect in the treatment?

Physical Assessment: This may include Range of Motion tests, specific joint tests, observing certain actions and posture, neurological tests & palpation of the muscles.

Treatment: Techniques used may include Manual soft issue techniques such as myofascial release, massage, trigger point release. Other modalities include dry needling and cupping. Different stretching techniques, mobilisation, taping.

Plan: Treatment plan is devised with the patient including expected outcomes, corrective exercises, home program if appropriate, follow up treatment if needed.

Re-assess: If a follow up treatment is recommended Myotherapists will ask questions and re-test to measure improvement. Depending on the condition being treated and the outcome the treatment plan is continued or a referral is made to more appropriate healthcare professional. In other words, if Myotherapy is not working we will not continue to take your money.
